Vilniaus kolegija/University of Applied Sciences (VIKO) is the largest accredited higher professional education institution in Lithuania.
Vilniaus kolegija/University of Applied Sciences provides higher professional education in the sectors of Tourism, Business, Information Technologies, Electronics, Pedagogical Education, Economy, Health Care, Agriculture and Arts.
Vilniaus kolegija/University of Applied Sciences has 7 500 students, who study here under 48 study programmes in 8 faculties: Electronics and Informatics, Economics, Business Management, Health Care, Pedagogic, Design and Technology, Art and Agro-technologies. The duration of full-time studies are 3, 3,5 or 4 years and extramural – 4 or 4,5 years. Apart from basic studies short-time refresher courses are offered. Every year the study programmes are being revised to respond to current social and economic requirements of labour market, the society needs.
There are established good laboratories and study centers of Vilniaus kolegija/University of Applied Sciences. Computer centre has 30 computer classrooms with > 1000 computers. The funds of the college’s library contain about 280,000 copies.
In 2006 the reform of the Law of Higher Education resulted in the introduction of Professional Bachelor Degree.
We seek to equip study process with modern training technologies via participation in international projects and cooperation with organizations and enterprises.
We are members of many associations: Lithuanian Industrial Confederation, Lithuanian Hotel Association, Lithuanian Tourism Association, Association of Information Technology, Telecommunications and Equipment Companies of Lithuania, National Association of Hotels and Restaurants, Lithuanian Commerce Association, Vilnius Chamber of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts, etc. We co-operate with Vilnius University, Kaunas University of Technology, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Lithuanian University of Agriculture, Lithuanian Veterinary Academy, Klaipėda University.
Close contacts with our social partners, universities and fruitful international co-operation enable us to meet the labour market needs. Vilniaus kolegija/University of Applied Sciences is the member of EURASHE, SPACE, ENPHE, CDIO, ELIA, VETNNET .
The students spend interesting and purposeful leisure time. Their interests are represented by the Students’ council. There are such organizations as dancing company "VORUTA”, sports club "VIKAS”. Two basketball teams play in Vilnius championship, and women handball team "Eastcon AG – VIKO” became the national champion in 2002, 2005.
Vilniaus kolegija/University of Applied Sciences was established in 2000 with the adoption of a new Law on Higher Education which introduced a binary system of higher education in Lithuania.
A good basis for the establishment of Vilniaus kolegija/University of Applied Sciences was provided by the former higher vocational schools which proved to be the best at that time in Vilnius: Vilnius Higher Vocational School of Electronics, Vilnius Higher Vocational School of Economics and Vilnius Higher Vocational School of Business. Having received the external national and international evaluation and developed their new study programmes the former higher vocational schools merged to become a contemporary new higher education institution – University of Applied Sciences.
